A Less-Explored Hike to Dindigad
The Kalyan–Bhiwandi region is rich in history, and if you wander through its lanes, you’ll find hidden treasures — one such gem is the Dindi Gad Shiv Mandir.

Despite its name, Dindi Gad isn’t a fort; it’s a beautiful Shiva temple perched on a hilltop. The road to the top is challenging, with plenty of sharp turns, so whether you ride up on a two-wheeler or choose to hike, the journey itself becomes an adventure.
The scenic approach is ideal for bike or cycle rides, offering a mix of thrill and challenge. From the parking area, it’s a short 5-minute walk to the base of the temple steps. There are about 80–100 steps lead you to the temple surrounded by trees.

From the terrace of temple, you’re rewarded with panoramic views of Kalyan–Bhiwandi and the surrounding landscape. The most striking sight is the Ulhas River, wrapping around the mountain like a necklace — giving this viewpoint its local name, Necklace Point. It’s a magical spot for both sunrise and sunset.

The temple’s calm ambiance offers a perfect escape from everyday stress. Monsoon visits are especially enchanting — lush greenery, cool breezes, and, if you’re lucky, the sound or sight of peacocks. But remember: the jungle area means staying alert while driving and walking.

After visiting the main temple, a short concrete path leads to another small shrine the Durga Mata . From Shanti Nagar’s side, there’s also a fascinating 1 km tunnel, possibly used during wartime or for a water pipeline, adding a touch of mystery to the area.
